Premium Lite on YouTube differs from Premium in the following ways:
With Premium Lite, you won’t get ads on videos like gaming, fashion, beauty, news, and more. Ads, however, may still appear on music content, Shorts, and when you search or browse.
Premium Lite also offers background play and downloads for most videos. Background play enables you to play videos on your mobile device while using other apps or when your screen is off. The downloads feature enables you to download videos and playlists to watch offline when you aren't connected to the Internet. These features are not available on Shorts or on music content, such as official/premium music videos, Art Tracks, children’s songs, as well as user generated content that includes content from our music partners (for example: covers, dance videos, or a vlog with a popular song in the background).
Premium Lite does not include YouTube Music Premium, or additional features such as continue watching, Jump ahead, queuing, or high quality audio and video, and more. Learn more about Premium benefits on YouTube.
Upgrade your Premium Lite membership
If you originally signed up for Premium Lite on a web browser or the Google Play Store, you’ll need to visit youtube.com/paid_memberships on a web browser to upgrade to a Premium membership.
To upgrade your membership:
- Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
- Click Manage Membership next to your Premium Lite membership.
- Click Upgrade next to the new Premium plan you want to upgrade to.
- Click Confirm.
Cancel your Premium Lite membership
To cancel your membership:
- Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
- Click Manage membership.
- Click Deactivate.
- Click Continue to cancel.
- Select your reason for canceling and then click Next.
- Click Yes, cancel.
