Happy BDay GRASP - at Andy's Pizza
Happy BDay GRASP - at Andy's Pizza
GRASP started on April 27, 2022 - exactly 4 years to the day and at this very location! (formerly Mod Pizza) Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate our community and see friends old and new while enjoying pizza that has become quite a hit in the DMV area! Andy's serves pizza by the slice and also wine by the glass or bottle. Two slices of pizza and a coke cost about $12. It all started with a ball of Trader Joe’s pizza dough. Over nearly a decade, Andy Brown has refined his recipe from semihomemade to a from-scratch crust that ferments for 72 hours before it’s baked in a hot stone oven. This location, in Kentlands, is the newest but Andy’s is quickly mushrooming around DC and NoVA. With its pliable crust, tangy tomatoes, and high-quality cheese, this is one of the most awarded pizzas in the DMV.

Annual Trillium Hike
Annual Trillium Hike
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR THIS HIKE: To go on this hike you must purchase in advance a $4 Daily Access Permit (license type 461) from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. You will not need to purchase the permit if you have a currently valid Virginia hunting, fishing, or boat license. You can purchase the permit online, but wait until the day before the hike in case the hike needs to be rescheduled or cancelled. Make sure you carry a copy of the permit (either in paper form or downloaded to your mobile device) on the hike. If you've previously purchased this permit online you can access your [Go Outdoors Virginia](https://license.gooutdoorsvirginia.com/Licensing/CustomerLookup.aspx) account by clicking on the green "Login" button. If you're new to the website you should click on the "Enroll Now!" link below the Login button. You will need to supply the date of the hike when purchasing your permit. This is a moderately strenuous circuit hike of around 8 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain in Virginia's G. R. Thompson Wildlife Management Area and on the Appalachian Trail. It's on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains about 11 miles east of Front Royal. This area has been known for nearly a century as one of the densest concentrations of trilliums in the eastern part of the country, though a scientific explanation remains elusive. When the trilliums are in bloom it's an impressive display. Bring water and pack a lunch or snack or pick up something at Sheetz where we will make a brief stop on the way out. Parking at the trailhead might be limited so carpools are encouraged and will be organized at our meeting point. Each passenger should give his or her driver $11 for the transportation provided. The only other expense will be Adventuring's $5 trip fee. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Kiss & Ride lot of the East Falls Church Metro station or at 10 a.m. at the Thompson Lake Parking Area (2140 Leeds Manor Rd., Delaplane, VA). Please [click here](https://adventuringlgbtq.com/Adventuring_Release_Form.pdf) to review our release form. Day Hike - Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve (7.5 Miles) + Quattro Goombas
Banshee Reeks, designated as a Virginia State Treasure in 2016, is a 695-acre nature preserve located near Leesburg, VA. Protected under a permanent conservation easement, the property's 20 miles of hiking trails allow visitors to observe the diversity of flora and fauna that call the preserve home. We will meet at the Vienna South Metro Station at 9:00 AM and carpool to the trailhead. Drive time is about 45 minutes. Please post a comment below if you are willing to drive. Carpooling saves the environment and makes friends. ## **Trail Facts** * **Difficulty Level: Easy** * **Length:** 7.5 Miles * **Duration:** 3-4 hrs * **Elevation Gain:** 466 Feet * **Permits:** None * **Parking:** Vienna South Metro Station * **Dogs:** Must be leashed and under control at all times. * **Trailhead Coordinates:** 39.028277603032315, -77.5997077224149 * **[AllTrails Map](https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/map-february-16-2025-f4f691a?u=i&sh=kucj8c)** **Trail Details:** Our route through Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve will showcase varied habitat types, including meadows, forests, and wetlands. We will pass by Goose Creek, a State Scenic River, two small ponds, and a few of the structures that were used when this property was a farm. Depending on time and interest, we can stop by the Visitor Center before or after the hike to chat with the friendly staff and check out the exhibits. If you'd like to learn more about Banshee Reeks and its history, please visit [the preserve website](https://bansheereeksnp.org/). If you end up driving, the trailhead coordinates will take you to the main parking lot, which is about 5 minutes into the preserve after you pass through the entrance gate. If for some reason that lot is full then you can park in the overflow lot, which you will pass on your drive in. There is a restroom available inside the Visitor Center for you to use both before and after the hike. **Banshee Reeks is a nature preserve and is not treated for ticks, so please make sure to bring and apply the appropriate repellent before the hike.** On the way back, I plan to stop at Quattro Goombas Winery and Craft Brewery in Aldie, VA.
